10 December 2025 — The Energy Transitions Commission (ETC) today announced that Jules Kortenhorst will re-join the ETC as Co-Chair effective Q1 2026, having been a founding Commissioner. He will join Adair Turner, who has led the ETC for the past decade and will continue to serve as Co-Chair. This appointment comes as the global energy transition enters a new era — one defined by contrasting dynamics. Political pushback and policy headwinds persist, yet the rapid growth of renewables, electrification, and clean technologies is now irreversible.
“The energy transition is entering a period of unprecedented opportunity. The Dawn of the Age of Electrification, driven by the collapse of wind and solar costs. Sunbelt countries in particular can now grow green electricity faster and cheaper than ever. Jules’ leadership will be invaluable in turning this potential into action across the globe”, said Adair Turner, Chair, Energy Transitions Commission.
Jules Kortenhorst brings decades of leadership and an international perspective across public service, business, and climate innovation. A former member of the Dutch Parliament, he was founding CEO of the European Climate Foundation (ECF), where he led the organisation in supporting climate initiatives across Europe and catalysing large-scale investment in decarbonisation. He also served nearly a decade as CEO of the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) and was a founding ETC Commissioner, giving him a long history of collaboration with the ETC team. In his new role, Kortenhorst will share responsibility with Adair Turner for driving ETC strategy, scaling global impact, and deepening engagement with key stakeholders across regions.
“It’s a privilege to return to the ETC in this new capacity,” said Jules Kortenhorst. “The energy transition is at a tipping point — not of possibility, but of policy and implementation. I look forward to working with the ETC members, partners and team to accelerate real world action towards a net zero future”.
The ETC’s senior leadership team includes Faustine Delasalle, Vice Chair of the ETC and CEO of the Mission Possible Partnership (MPP); Ita Kettleborough, Director of the ETC; and Mike Hemsley, Deputy Director of the ETC. They collectively lead a team which combines global energy transition insights and engagement and communications expertise.
“In a world where disinformation and false narratives around the energy transition are spreading faster than ever, the ETC’s evidence-based perspective has never been more critical. As a trusted, credible, and pragmatic source, the ETC turns rigorous analysis into actionable insight, helping governments, businesses, and investors separate fact from fiction and take action to accelerate the energy transition and unlock economic potential”, said Faustine Delasalle, Vice Chair of the ETC and CEO of the Mission Possible Partnership.
About the Energy Transitions Commission
The Energy Transitions Commission (ETC) is a global coalition of leaders from across the energy landscape committed to achieving net-zero emissions by mid-century, in line with the Paris climate objective of limiting global warming to well below 2°C and ideally to 1.5°C. Commissioners come from a range of organisations – energy producers, energy-intensive industries, technology providers, finance players and environmental NGOs – which operate across developed and developing countries and play different roles in the energy transition. ETC’s analyses are developed with a systems perspective through extensive exchanges with a diverse set of experts and practitioners.
The Energy Transitions Commission is hosted by SYSTEMIQ Ltd.
